Jorginho's time at Chelsea near the end?
Jorginho's time at Chelsea near the end?
Chelsea fans feel as though now would be the perfect time to bring Jorginho back to the lineup, claiming he deserves his chance. But even when Kante limped off against Watford, Scottish teen, Billy Gilmour was given the nod ahead.
For me, I feel Jorginho's time at Chelsea is up. Not starting at all since the restart is quite some statement from Frank Lampard. You would of thought maybe after the poor performance against West Ham he would be given a place against Watford but still no start.
I think to play in Frank Lampard's number 6 position, you need to have legs. In the 4-3-3, you have the attacking midfielders, who push forward, leaving the number 6 often to stay back and work harder to recover the ball. I don't think Lampard trusts Jorginho to be able to have the pace to track runs and I don't feel he is defensively minded enough. Watching him play over the last two seasons, I have never seen Jorginho as a holding midfielder type but a more of a deeper creator. Someone who can control the tempo, build up the play slowly and then hit a quick loft ball over the top for runners.
When 18 year old, Billy Gilmour, came onto the scene it was a delight for Chelsea fans. Seeing this youngster dominant the midfield over Champions, Liverpool, in the FA Cup was quite a feat. Since this performance, he has kept Jorginho out the squad and I feel he will do the same tonight.
The advantages Gilmour has over Jorginho is his pace. If we need men to drop back, he can do it more easily because of his age. I feel Gilmour has a better defensive awareness, he can read balls before they are played and has the pace to intercept them faster. The only criticism I have of Gilmour is that he is still quite weak on the ball but we must remember how young he is and the lack of Premier League experience that he has had.
Lampard said in a recent conference about the position of the number 6. He said...
"Generally, with the midfield, I do like midfield players who can perform, not all the roles but can play high, can play on the side, can do the defensive duties"...
"Kovacic can perform that kind of role. Ruben Loftus-Cheek can perform that kind of role. N’Golo Kante can perform that kind of role. Billy Gilmour can. Jorginho also can but his role predominantly in his career has been from a deeper position."
“I had those good problems within the team. I like to work on the midfield, making it as fluid as it possibly can be so we give teams problems."
This says to me that Lampard is looking for fluidity rather than a sat back, build up of tempo. Lampard want's his midfielders to move the ball faster and keep the opposition moving, something that Joringho would not be use to.
In my opinion, this will be Jorginho's last season for Chelsea. Lampard is looking to youth once again over experience, building an empire for tomorrow. I think if we were to sell Jorghino, we can invest the money in other areas and still have enough quality in the midfield not to worry about his loss.

Chelsea play Crystal Palace tonight with the Blues looking to repeat the performance against Watford on Saturday night, to help cement their place in the top four.
During the 3-0 win over Watford, injury concern hit N'golo Kante, who had to be subbed off in the 78th minute with a tight hamstring. Lampard stated "Kante will not be in the squad. He hurt his hamstring, [it is a] low-level hamstring injury."..."We are hoping it is going to be a week or so. We are going to see how it goes but I would suspect we would be very lucky to have him for Sheffield United".
The injury of Kante is a dilemma for Lampard. Since the restart, Kante has starred in all five matches keeping Vice Captain, Jorginho, out of the starting XI. Rumours have been bubbling that Jorginho has fallen out of favour with Lampard and his playing time proves that.
